Who We Are

A Center of Culture,
Belonging, and Aid

The Sacramento Chinese of Indochina Friendship Association was formed to allow ethnic Chinese who came from Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos to assemble in maintaining the cultures and languages of their homelands — three countries collectively known as Indochina.

Our center offers a banquet hall with free vegetarian meals, an activity room for gathering and prayer at our temple dedicated to Guanyin — the Eastern goddess of Mercy — and a Chinese school where hundreds of students raised in America reconnect with their heritage.

"Promote the interest of ethnic Chinese from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos — in the United States and all over the world."

What We Do

Four Pillars of Community Service

SCIFA Chinese school students

SCIFA Chinese School

Hundreds of students raised in America attend SCIFA's Chinese school to learn Cantonese and Mandarin, study traditional calligraphy, and explore the customs of their Indochinese heritage. Classes serve children across the Sacramento region whose families want the next generation to carry their culture forward.

SCIFA Guanyin Temple

Temple of Guanyin

At the heart of our center stands a colorful temple dedicated to Guanyin, the Eastern goddess of Mercy. Community members gather here for prayer, reflection, and spiritual ceremony. The temple is open to all who seek peace, regardless of their background.

SCIFA community meal distribution

Free Vegetarian Meals

Our banquet hall provides free vegetarian meals to the community regularly. During the COVID-19 pandemic, SCIFA distributed food to over 300 families — including thousands of pounds of pork, turkeys, hams, eggs, and staple goods — every Friday beginning April 17, 2020.

Global Relief Fund

SCIFA has raised over one million dollars across 20+ years for victims of catastrophic events — from the Haiti earthquake to the September 11 attacks. Guided by President Linda Lui and a dedicated board, the fund deploys support locally and internationally wherever it is needed most.

Deep Roots

A Million-Dollar Legacy of Giving — Built on Community

Over 25 years, SCIFA has quietly become one of Sacramento's most resilient community institutions — raising funds during disasters, feeding neighbors through a pandemic, and teaching hundreds of children who their ancestors were. This work endures because ordinary members showed up, every Friday, without fanfare.

"SCIFA has been the backbone of our Indochinese community for over two decades. It is a place where my children can learn who they are, where our elders find peace in prayer, and where no one who is hungry is turned away. This is what community looks like."
