Who We Are

A Community Built on Care and Trust

Rainbow Daycare, Inc. is a nonprofit parent cooperative in Sacramento, California. For over three decades, we've been dedicated to providing exceptional early childhood education for children ages six weeks through five years.

We are a California State licensed center committed to low staff-to-child ratios, a play-based thematic curriculum, and close bonds between caregivers, children, and families. At Rainbow, we don't just care for your child — we welcome your whole family.

Our Story

Born from a Parent's Vision in 1987

Rainbow Daycare, Inc. opened its doors on September 9, 1986, founded by Dorothy Benjamin — a new mother who recognized the urgent need for quality infant childcare. In 1981, she had developed the very first on-site infant daycare facility for California State workers.

For five years, she and founding president Tess Albin-Smith, along with dedicated parents and staff, fought to maintain their lease on state property. In 1984, their efforts gained statewide attention and helped establish a California childcare fund for state employees. Their determination gave life to RDC as it exists today.
